So I just got back from China about a week ago. This trip ended up being a whole lot better than the first trip; no one got sick, I got to get out of the city and see the country, and the food was better for some reason.

However as you can see in the first pictures (they were taken at the Olympic Park) the air quality was horrible. I know it looks like fog, but let me assure you it is no such thing. The haze you see is mainly pollution from the cars and power plants in the area. Walking around in it for longer than a few hours made your throat burn and your eyes sting.

Going to the wall was probably the biggest reason this trip was better. There are two places you can access the wall from Beijing, one that is really close to the city, and the other wich is much further out. We went to the more remote one wich was completely worth it. We had to take a local bus for about an hour and then barter with 'taxis' to take us the rest of the way. The whole trip ended up costing us about 55 yuan (wich is less than 10 dollars) and took almost the entire day. The air was clear, the weather was perfect, and the hike was hard. Hiking along the wall was like doing the stair master for 2 hours, but at points the stairs get to be 20in high and maybe 4in wide. But all in all it was worth it, as I've said to a few other people, after going to the wall I liked China again and can now recommend China as a travel destination.
